Mothering magazine recently announced the winner of its International Breastfeeding Symbol contest.
Matt Daigle, a stay-at-home father and freelance graphic designer from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, submitted the winning symbol.
According to the staff at Mothering magazine, “The purpose of an international symbol for breastfeeding is to increase public awareness of breastfeeding, to provide an alternative to the use of a baby bottle image to designate baby friendly areas in public, and to mark breastfeeding friendly facilities.”
“The purpose of the symbol is not to segregate breastfeeding, but to help integrate it into society by better accommodating it in public.”
Support breastfeeding by encouraging businesses in your area to use the symbol, which is available copyright free. To download a PDF of the International Breastfeeding Symbol, click here.
